Westnoken – The Central Papua Mimika Provincial Government has commissioned a composting machine at PT Petrosia Timika camp to process food waste into organic compost. Political and government expert staff of the Mimika Regent Septinus Timang Timika unit said the launch of the composter by Mimika Regent is a commitment to protecting the environment. We see this as a positive collaboration between PT Petrosia and PT Kinarya Bumi Lestari. Septinus believed that the waste problem was a shared responsibility of private government and society and must be well managed to avoid polluting the environment. He said the private sector in Mimika is concerned about waste issues by converting waste into organic compost.
Aditya Ramarajah Business Development PT Petrosia explained that the machine has a capacity of 300 kg and can produce 20 kg of compost per 100 kg of waste within 24 hours of operation. PT Petrocia generates between 200 and 250 tons of organic waste every day; for this we are determined to prepare compost and make it more useful. Meanwhile PT Petrosias corporate social responsibility officer Joe Kambuya said it was a good start for the company to work with local governments to protect local ecosystems and ensure sustainable consumption and production practices. He said composters that convert food waste into organic fertilizer have been tested and found to be safe for use on different types of plants.
