Westnoken Jakarta – The separatist movement of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) in Papua has the potential to be very detrimental to the future of Papua’s young generation. This movement not only threatens regional security and stability, but also destroys the hopes and dreams of Papua’s young generation for a better future. The OPM separatist movement uses propaganda and manipulation to influence the young generation of Papua to join their movement. They used the rhetoric of liberation and independence to attract sympathy and support from the international community. However, in fact this movement only seeks personal gain and power. They use funds that should be used to develop Papua and improve the quality of life of the people, but they use them to finance acts of violence and terrorism.
The OPM separatist movement has also created political and social instability in Papua. Papuan society has become divided and lives in fear and anxiety. They cannot live a normal life and develop optimally. The Papuan people have also become victims of propaganda and manipulation carried out by the masterminds of separatist movements, such as the ULMWP (United Liberation Movement for West Papua) which is controlled by Benny Wenda.
The OPM separatist movement and propaganda carried out by ULMWP abroad have also created a negative image of Papua in the eyes of the international community. Papua is considered an unstable and unsafe area, thus hampering investment and development in Papua. This has a negative impact on economic development and welfare of the Papuan people.
The young Papuan generation has become victims of the manipulation and indoctrination of this separatist movement. They lose the opportunity to get quality education, decent employment opportunities, and access to adequate health facilities. Their future is threatened because they are trapped in an endless cycle of violence and conflict. Therefore, it is very important for the government and Papuan people to unite against this separatist movement and provide better protection and opportunities for the young generation of Papua. For this reason, there needs to be more intensive efforts in dealing with the OPM separatist movement and the propaganda carried out by the ULMWP. The government needs to educate the public about the importance of unity and integrity in the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. Apart from that, it is also necessary to carry out sustainable development in Papua to improve the social and economic conditions of the Papuan people, so that the young generation of Papua can have a better future.
