Westnoken.com – The West Papua provincial government is preparing to build a provincial library with the concept of a mini-museum to store all archives and documents related to the history of the provinces formation. Barnabas Donsiba Head of the West Papua Archives and Library Service in Manukwari said on Tuesday that the library has a small museum as well as literacy. Now we are not only talking about books but we are talking about documents that have historical significance. He explained that the library that will be built in Manukwari Regency will be equipped with a digital library and MSME kiosk-based infrastructure.
In addition there is a storage area for traditional fabrics from seven regions of West Papua namely Manukwari Manukwari Selatan Arawak Pahar Teluk Bentoni Teluk Windama Kamiana and Wakwak. Barnabas said: Libraries are now multifaceted. The big concept is to be a mini museum. All original Papuan works must be preserved. He said that there are currently two choices of land to build a library with a small museum concept each with an area of 1 hectare and 1 hectare. The two countries were previously investigated by a technical team from the provincial government so that the construction of the library could provide added value for the people of West Papua. Barnabas said: First the site must be investigated from the point of view of land value strategy legality etc.
He explained that the budget to build the library was allocated through the Special Material Allocation Fund (DAK) under the Ministry of Education Culture Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). If a thorough investigation of the location of the library building is completed the provincial government will therefore immediately follow up with a report. Barnabas Donsiba said that we have been in contact with the ministry in this regard. Once the review is complete we will report to the governor and then to the ministry.
