Westnoken – The TNI Task Force from Infantry Battalion (Yonif) 133 Yudha Sakti was involved in a shootout with an armed criminal group (KKB) in Ayata Village, Maybrat Regency, West Papua. There were no fatalities or injuries in the shootout, but hundreds of residents were frightened.
They were successfully evacuated by TNI troops to a safe place. Dansatgas Yonif 133 Yudha Sakti, Infantry Lt. Col. Andika Ganesha Sakti, said that the shootout occurred when the TNI Task Force thwarted the KKB’s action to put up the Morning Star flag to commemorate Free Papua Political Manifesto Day, December 1.
“KKB, who was under pressure, then intimidated the residents to use them as shields in the shootout. “We, the TNI Task Force, immediately took action by rescuing the village residents to avoid casualties,” he said, Sunday (3/12/2023). The TNI Task Force’s combat movement succeeded in repelling the KKB who fled towards the forests and hills. From drone monitoring, the 8 KKB led by Manfred Fatem were carrying several firearms.
“From the results of the authorities’ investigation, it was discovered that the KKB’s plan, apart from flying the Morning Star flag, was also to plan to attack the security forces. “They (KKB) will also carry out acts of terror to disturb the comfort and peace of the local community,” he said.
